Galloper Gets Go Ahead

Galloper offshore wind farm, an extension to the existing Greater Gabbard site, has been granted planning permission by the UK government. The 140 turbine Galloper project will be located 27 miles off the Suffolk coast alongside Greater Gabbard, and will double the site’s current 504MW generation capacity to 1,008MW.

Together, the two wind farms will be able to power up to one million British homes when Galloper is completed in 2017. The new project is also good news for the economy, as the construction phase is expected to create around 850 jobs and could bring over £1 billion of private sector investment into new UK energy infrastructure.

Wilding says: This is great news for the UK offshore wind industry and potentially the energy industry as a whole. Greater Gabbard was a key substation construction project for Wilding and it would be fantastic to be involved in the Galloper extension as well, when the time comes.
