Good progress with Humber Gateway

Work is stepping up on the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm project, with E.ON recently announcing that it will soon be starting the onshore cable-laying works. The £736 million project will be located 8km off the East Yorkshire coast, with the electricity produced being flowed into the National Grid through a new onshore substation at Salt End.

Due for completion in spring 2015, the Humber Gateway will have 73 wind turbines and the capacity to generate up to 219MW of electricity – enough to power 170,000 homes. Around 1,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase and on 10 May, more than 400 businesses attended a Meet the Buyer event in Hull to find out about the opportunities on offer. The event was hosted by E.ON and representatives from its construction partners, which include National Grid and Siemens.

Wilding says: More good news from the Round 2 phase of offshore wind farm developments. It is great to see E.ON and their partners taking a responsible attitude towards using local services, by organising this successful Meet the Buyer event.
