London Array Substation Scoops Top Award

The onshore substation for the London Array Offshore Wind Farm – a Wilding Construction project – has won the Brassey Award for Best Overall Project at the 2012 Kent & East Sussex Engineering Excellence Awards. The 400Kv/150Kv structure, completed last year, was highly praised by the judging panel. Chair Rob James commented: ‘The judges were impressed with the efforts of the project to minimise the impact on the local community during construction and the legacy that the project has created. The local community has been left with a striking architectural wall to shield the site, increased employment opportunities, a nature conservation fund and a bursary scheme to support a local student wishing to enter the engineering industry for the next 10 years'.

The award was presented in June at Leeds Castle by the Senior Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Barry Clarke.

Wilding says:What a fantastic achievement. We’re proud of our contribution to the Cleve Hill project, which saw an outstanding level of commitment and hard work from Wilding personnel. Well done to everyone involved!
