Wilding Project Round-Up

Work continues at pace with our many onshore and offshore substation construction projects across the UK. Here’s a quick progress update on just three of the major projects we’re currently working on, or where we have recently completed our part of the work.

·         London Array. As of 9 July, 79 of Phase One’s 177 turbines had been installed, with the process ‘working like a sewing machine’ according to Siemens. At this rate, all the turbines could be place by the end of the year, which would be a great achievement. The two remaining export cables should also be installed by the end of 2012.

·         Greater Gabbard. Siemens are now installing the last of the 140 turbines off the Suffolk coast. Most of the turbines have now generated power and the third and final export cable has been laid. The project is on track for completion this year.

·         Gwynt y Môr.  We are pleased to confirm that the 400Kv Bodelwyddan onshore substation south of St Asaph Business Park is now live and connected to the National Grid. A second 132Kv substation on the same site, which will receive power from the offshore wind farm, is due for connection later this year. Offshore, both foundation structures for the two offshore substations have now been installed. Later in July, the heavy lift vessel Stanislav Yudin will start installing the wind farm’s turbine foundations and substation topsides. By the end of the year, up to 60 monopolies and transition pieces will also have been fitted.

Wilding says: It’s gratifying to see these three major projects coming on in leaps and bounds, having successfully overcome delays and setbacks in some cases. Keep up the good work!
